Wildlife Retreat Taronga
Eco-friendly resort
Overlooking Sydney Harbour, the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga sits peacefully in a natural bushland setting within the boundaries of Taronga Zoo. The new Wildlife Retreat offers a fantastic opportunity to see and learn about Australia’s unique wildlife and support conservation projects.
The Wildlife Retreat at Taronga features five environmentally sensitive and sustainably designed lodges with 62 guest rooms and a thoughtfully designed animal sanctuary. The collaboration of Australian architects at Cox Architecture with the team at Chada have shown how the partnership between the interior and exterior adds to the enriched experience for guests.
Opening the retreat in October 2019, Taronga Conservation Society Australia’s CEO Cameron Kerr said: “We’ve taken great care in the development of the Retreat to ensure it has a strong focus on environmental sustainable design and that it’s respectful and in keeping with the natural landscape.”
Internal CLT structures at the retreat were subsequently lined to achieve compliance with the National Construction Code’s residential requirements and the Green Council of Australia’s 5-star Green Star specifications.
Lining the floors with a system that could meet such strict prerequisites led to a successful collaboration between REGUPOL and Karndean Design flooring.
Approximately 2,800m² of REGUPOL sonus multi 4.5 acoustic underlay. Dual bond installation with Karndean’s 4.5mm Luxury Vinyl Tiles. REGUPOL sonus multi 4.5 is a general-purpose underlay consisting of cork granules and rubber granulate.
The REGUPOL sonus multi 4515 acoustic underlay being made from recycled materials is independently Good Environmental Choice Certified (GECA). GECA certification provides a Level A sustainability factory weighting (100%) within the Green Star Sustainable Products Calculator.
